The HLA 40 is the first long-reach hedge trimmer in the STIHL AS System, designed for cutting tall hedges, shrubs, and bushes from the ground. With a telescopic shaft extending from 115 to 260 cm and a 45 cm (18") blade, it delivers professional results on taller growth without the need for ladders.

Powered by the AS System

Runs on the interchangeable AS 2 lithium-ion battery, providing up to 40 minutes of working time. The battery is compatible with other STIHL AS System tools including cordless garden pruners, leaf blowers, grass trimmers, and powered secateurs.

Telescopic and adjustable for versatile trimming

The tool-free telescopic shaft adjusts quickly to your desired height, extending up to 2.6 metres for comfortable ground-level cutting of tall hedges. The cutter bar adjusts to three different angles (minus 45° to plus 70°) without tools, making it easy to tackle hedge sides and tops. A tip protector shields the blades when working close to the ground or walls.

Lightweight and comfortable

Weighing just 3.7 kg, the HLA 40 is remarkably light for extended use. The soft-grip handle and quick-clip shoulder strap provide added comfort during longer trimming sessions.

Professional cutting performance

Laser-cut, diamond-ground, and hardened blades deliver excellent cutting performance and durability. The 45 cm cutter bar helps you work efficiently and achieve high-quality results quickly.

Easy transport and storage

The hedge trimmer splits for transport and storage, reducing its length from 260 cm to 115 cm - perfect for fitting in your garage or shed.

Compatibility note

Cannot be used with Kombi attachments, HTA 30 pruner head, RTS harness, or shaft extension.
